Godgift's Story

Godgift's Story

Lagos, Nigeria

I hope churches and prisons all over the world run Alpha

Godgift was falsely accused of murder and spent nineteen months in prison awaiting trial. During that time, he reflected on aspects of his life he wanted to change. While still in prison, he heard about Alpha and decided to attend.

He says, "It was as if I just received my sight, my eyes were opened. I had never been so clear about the person of Jesus. Alpha was about Jesus and I learnt how sinless He lived, and decided that this sinless man is the one I will follow."

He was acquitted shortly after his experience on Alpha. He found life challenging after release from prison. But this hasn't stopped him from working with young people and running Alpha in his church.

He hopes that others will have the same opportunity that he had, to hear about Jesus on Alpha.

He said, "I hope churches and prisons all over the world run Alpha because souls need to be saved—people need to know who this Jesus is, why he came, and what he calls us to do. If I hadn't come to know Jesus on Alpha I might still be in prison. I am so happy about who I am today by the grace of God."

Emma's Story

Mexico

Within the space of a day I went from being the youngest child to an only child.

After the death of her sister, Emma was left with a huge emptiness. She began isolating herself from close relationships and the more isolated she became, the more difficult it was to re-engage.

One day, her father dared her to try Alpha. She turned around, took a risk and signed up.

Xola's Story

I used to think that God was not for me but for other people

Xola grew up in a Samora, a township in Cape Town, South Africa. With other young men from his community, he got involved with gangs, drugs and was eventually arrested.

While in prison, Xola began to realise that he could not live the life he had previously led.

Everywhere, Everyday

We all explore. Every day. In small ways, and in big.

Millions of people across the world have explored life, faith and meaning on Alpha.

What is Alpha?

Alpha is an opportunity for anyone, anywhere, to freely explore their unique questions about life, faith and God. It is a series of interactive sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Alpha is run all around the globe, in cafés, churches, schools, universities, homes, prisons – you name it.

The sessions usually have three key elements:

Whether around a kitchen table, or a quick catch up over coffee and cake, food is a great way to build community and it's a priority for every Alpha.

The talks, delivered live or as a film, are designed to engage and inspire conversation, exploring the big issues around faith and unpacking the basics of Christianity. Watch a talk >

The chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic in an honest, friendly and open environment. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously).
